Conflict of Interest 3168Arif Khokar Did you drive in the 60's? I think not. Roads constructed then were far superior in terms of smoothness...

This would be a GREAT idea if it weren't so stupid... Speed limits aren't unreasonable... even if *everybody* thinks so or chooses to ignore them. The ENTIRE street and highway infrastructure is designed and set up for the speed limits now in place. Speed limits can't just be changed on the whim of the majority of numbskull drivers who don't like 'em. But they can be reduced based on increasing traffic density. You can expect that to happen before your wish comes true.
A good portion of traffic problems are caused by drivers disobeying the speed limit now. Your implied conclusion that if speed limits were higher they would be obeyed, if not obviously flawed, lacks any basis. I would predict that the same people who drive 70 in a 55 would drive 90 in a 75. That's pretty much exactly what they do now. Changing the limit is not going to change driver behavior. No member of any legislature is going to vote to make driving even more dangerous for his grandmother or granddaughter.
Conflict of Interest 3166Motorhead Lawyer I don't think he's failed to recognize that, and it's probably true. But I don't think most of the lunatics here are thinking "open road". And IMO, most drivers are not competent. Huhwhat...
First you'll have to pbutt a law that allows "we" to pbutt a law that allows "we" to pbutt a law that allows "we" to pbutt a law, ad infinitum. The public does not make law, is not qualified to make law. Perhaps especially traffic law. It's a... "conflict of interest", if you will. Today, this would be akin to allowing convicted criminals to pbutt laws allowing rape and robbery... You, obviously, excuse your failure to obey traffic law based on "everybody does it" or "I'm in a hurry", etc. No amount of rationalization will ever excuse anyone from the law. And it's a poor cognitive practice.
I guess that would generate advertising revenue... so your idea's not all bullpoo.
Conflict of Interest 3167gpsman I heartily disagree. People simply don't know how to drive well. They don't know the basics of car control, and they also don't know the laws. They don't know when they...
There is no profit in traffic law enforcement. If there WERE... you'd see a LOT more of it. 85% of the people on the road are idiots. Something about getting in a car (and posting on usenet) causes 85% of people to disengage what little brains they have. Personally, I don't want these people allowed to drive faster. I'm sure I have nothing to worry about in that regard. -----
