They're not. In many cases, they're remnants from the NMSL days (especially states near the east coast, OH, IL, and OR).
I see no reason why driving at 85 mph on rural interstates should be illegal or considered unsafe. I drive that speed daily and have come nowhere near crashing.
The only thing driving at a lower speed accomplishes is wasting more time driving.
Perhaps we can continue this debate when you decided to stop pulling facts out of your butt in order to support your argument.

My experience driving at 145 mph leads me to believe that people would be too busy trying to maintain control of their vehicle without having to deal with additional distractions. If people were allowed to drive faster, they would be far more inclined to devote a greater percentage of their attention to the task.
Close to 100%. I did the same thing when I was driving at high speeds (only when there was no traffic in close proximity).
Do you seriously think that someone will be able to devote enough attention to the driving task going 120 mph while on the phone?
