good! glad we agree on that (no sarcasm, I'm being serious.)

I can understand that; however, the OP's story detailed a cop who pulled someone over for a missing taillight, then upon *not* finding a more serious violation, did not write the driver for anything. From the driver's perspective, that sends the message that it's OK to drive around with defective equipment, just as long as you're not dealing drugs or carrying an illegal gun.

I don't have any problem at all with what you say, what I do have a problem with is that the "minor" violations are being ignored because the cop was apparently looking for bbutt and got a crappie. I guess it's just a personal pet peeve of mine, as every day on my way to work, I am consistently cut off by drivers who do not signal, have to pay extra attention because the car in front of me may or may not have functional brake lights, etc. etc. etc. and these do not seem to be a big priority.

Didn't I just post a couple weeks ago about three different drivers doing stupid crap in front of a cop (one wheelie on a motorcycle, one no headlights after dark, and one high beams in traffic) without any action on the cop's part whatsoever. IMHO how are we to have any respect for the law when the clear message being sent is that it really doesn't matter as long as you're not doing anything *really* illegal?

I guess that depends. What does for any reason mean? I know what you are saying, but, I do feel cops should be able to pull over anyone for...

Right, but that is a very grey area where not everyone agrees. If the cop can articulate that fact well then it is usually a good deal, but there are...

Of course, on the flip side, I never seem to have gotten any of those breaks. While I haven't been pulled over in years (I guess probably because as I've gotten older I tend to drive cars with fewer dents and shinier paint) there was a time when I couldn't drive down the street without making sure that my car was 100% in total compliance with all applicable laws without getting pulled over. I guess cops seem to think that slightly disreputable looking ancient VW sciroccos are likely to be driven by undesirable elements of society : (whether or not that statement is true probably depends on your perspective...)

A Porsche 944, however, seems to be completely invisible, both to cops and other drivers (I don't mind the first, but the second...)
