Congested and heavily bibutted towards car drivers. No lane discipline. Signalling is optional. Tailgating is now almost as bad as in Belgium.
Traffic drives too close together and doesn't pay attention to the road ahead leading to rear end shunts. White line overruns at giveway junctions and running red lights are also too common.
On motorways most people head for L3 and stay there until they reach their destination usually with 2 car length gaps fore and aft.
It is not uncommon to see a population and speed inversion of the motorway lanes at busy times. Most traffic packed in the outside lane but travelling slower and much less smoothly than the middle or inside lanes.
Where two busy lanes feather into one for roadworks the UK doesn't have enlightened rules for ensuring a smooth merge. In the US it is obvious to most drivers that to keep everything moving smoothly one vehicle should go from each lane alternately. The UK it is done by inching forward, slamming on brakes, cutting people up and mbuttively slowing down the traffic flow.
Cruise Control dangerous 5256Steve Firth An easy claim to make on usenet. Sounds to me as though your main source of information on this subject might be the Daily Mirror, or...
Some major roads are undersized for the traffic they are expected to handle. The M25 and Newcastle A1 Western Bypbutt are stunning examples...
Those are my instant gripes about driving in the UK. Thankfully there are still some courteous drivers on UK roads but fewer than I remember.
