Nonsense. Why was in installed on my 1984 Saab 900 Turbo 5 speed manual then? When did they start building them in Britain? Think they sold quite a few 900 SPGs over in the US and it was standard fit Worked absolutely fine. Switch it on at the desired speed and it holds it. Cut off when you touched the brake or throttle. No real difference to driving an auto with cruise fitted. The extra torque also meant it went up hills on motorways without so much as a drop in speed.
The two problems I had with it were 1) that I could drive much more economically without using cruise as it could not see the hills coming - thus it would use more boost, and more fuel to get up them unlike a human, who can see the rise coming and adjust the speed slightly higher to compensate without using any boost. 2) Nothing to do with it being a manual - there's something just not right about going along at high speed with your feet not on the pedals :-) You know what I mean - if you have to brake in an emergency, you just *know* where the brake pedal is in relation to the throttle and you can get your foot to it instantly.... when my feet were both on the floor, I never felt confident I'd hit the brake. Never missed mind, and it probably gets easier with practise!
