What exactly is "left lane blocking" 4030On Thu, 31 Mar 2005 12:47:52 -0500, "C. E. White" How do I handle it? By speeding up and completing my pbutt, of course. And I don't wait until the faster traffic...
Modern sirens suck. Can't tell where they are coming from at all much of the time. Same is fairly with the modern lights. They are just take more time to figure out where they are coming from on vehicle filled suburban roads. More buildings close to the road seem to help.
I vaguely remember reading some idiotcy that making people look around and try to find the emergency vehicle was a good thing. I cannot back this up so don't count on it. If you say I'm wrong, then well, you've got it :)
Anyway, I can see no reason why she should suspect that northbound traffic was traveling to her left. How many of us would actually be scanning our left side rear view mirror in a left turn? I'm generally not. Maybe I would have picked him up in the center mirror. Maybe.
If I detect emergency vehicles now, I often simply continue driving slowly and predictably or just stop in place given the road, traffic, etc. Moving right could put me in it's path, and I'm not going to risk that until I know where it is. When I know where it is, and I don't think moving right will put me in the emergencies vehicle path, I will do so.
