Oh yes... If the car looks like a privates "styled" it then it's a safe bet there's a privates driving it :-) You should go for "sleepers". Keep it looking as standard as possible but make it mind buggeringly quick.
There used to be an old Ford Anglia in Brighton that was all in grey primer and the only outward appearance of anything untoward was a decent set of wheels-tyres and a slightly larger bore exhaust (none of this bucket sized pooe you see today). It also had a tiny badge on the back that said "Bye Bye XR3i". It was 'kin quick and really inconspicuous.

If, as claimed, all he did was "swerve" to regain nearside, at 40, then he would have to be a complete pillock for the back end to "come round". Either the guy is a complete arse with no feel for the car or we're not getting the whole story.
