I never blamed the car. I characterized it as crappy because it was. It squeaked and rattled, it was overly large and handled poorly. It'd just come back from maintenance so it wasn't that it wasn't taken care of, but 15 years deteriorates a car.

I'm a rational person and I agree with your points. If my mom was tired, she shouldn't have been driving and I wish she hadn't been. She obviously hadn't learned your split mu lesson and didn't know how to handle the situation well.

But I object to having someone who knows nothing about her call her names or to imply she wasn't worthy of reproducing. Everyone makes driving mistakes -- if we were to give out Darwin awards for bad drivers, virtually every driver would have one. I was in one minor accident just after I got my license that didn't involve other vehicles or people or any injuries. I consider myself a safe driver now and haven't been in another accident in the over 15 years I've been driving since then, and I still do stupid things -- drive sometimes when I'm too tired, try to fiddle with my stereo while driving, sometimes take phone calls, but that doesn't mean I have bad genes or am incompetent.
