Well, yesm, it is getting on a bit like all out pool cars. But this has only 57k on the clock, and in any case I'm sure they are still available second hand,
Just for the hell of it I did something with the Rover today that no diesel I have driven ever could, - 70mph in 2nd gear and smooth acceleration all the way up. This is at the red line 6500 rpm. I didn't drive it like that for long though, and I can beleive than many people would. I suspect the red line is unachiveable in any of the higher gears, but I didn't try to find out.
My question is how useful is 70mph in 2nd? Do you use that more often than say, overtasking acceleration at 60mph. I suspect most drivers don't. At that sort of speed in many TDis you will overtake in 5th gear, (or perhaps 4th but no lower), whereas petrol cars will usually need to change down if they want to get past quickly. I find being able to overtake without changing down much more usfukl that being able to drive at 70mph in 2nd!
