I wanted to revisit this, as it is the most common comeback to anyone that tries to suggest doing anything new.

Expensive doesn't necessarily equal prohibitive.

Now, imagine that the aliens have finally landed. Before they left, they deposited 400 billion dollars in gold, along with the cures for cancer and aids, and medical information on how to cure spinal injuries and regenerate limbs.

Exacty. A system that people could use 24-7-365 by individually traveling directly to their destination wrecked havoc on a system...

The catch is, they left it on top of mount Everest. The cache is so big, and so heavy, there is absolutely no freakin way anyone is ever going to get it down without building a road to the top of mount Everest to allow a truck to haul it all down.

The road is projected to cost a 390 billion dollars. Is that one hellaciously expensive road? Yes it is! Is it too expensive to build? No it isn't - you're going to make 10 billion dollars profit by doing it.

So it is with "Dream" transportation systems, roads built where they have never been built before, or just about any public project that costs something. Is the "Dream" transportation too expensive? Maybe, maybe not. Depends on what the eventual rewards are for building it, just like a road that serves a new area. No one knows until a cost benefit analysis is done that takes into account all the costs and all the benefits to be realized. Such an
