Please, explain the ways to lower the number of accidents that are caused by impatience. One intersection in particular has lower accident rates since they were installed by about 5%, and the injury accident rates were down somewhere over 40% over the first 6 months.
Before this the entire city had already gone to a one-second delay of all red, meaning between green lights all 4 directions face a red light for a full second. Though numbers weren't available for before-after, most police said that it just increased the number of people running red lights because they figured they had a second before the other sides would get green lights.
How is it stupid to trade off a camera for less severe accidents? There's not space to widen the roads any more in this area, because of terrain and existing development there's no way to provide alternate routes that would be cost-feasable, and it's location causes it to be used by both people leaving work and returning home at the same time.
Since the cameras were installed it's rare to see anyone run this light, yet 1 stop light east at least 7-8 cars will run the light every time.
And yes, I'm certain they're running the light if they're crossing in front of me while I'm looking at a green light.
Only a fool would believe that drivers accidentally run lights that much.
