Drives me crazy 4055

I've seen cases where people have stopped 4 or 5 car lengths behind the stop line.

The problem with these "Sloth Coasters" is they are usually slow to accelerate even after the light turns green. When I see these people I do whatever it takes to avoid being stuck behind them. Fortunately, because they are coasting so slowly, it's usually possible to just merge in ahead of them.

Most of the people who stop short of the car in front-marked stop line don't stay...

What many Sloth Coasters fail to realize is that modern traffic signals are not controlled solely by timers. There are traffic sensors embedded in the pavement or mounted on the traffic signal arms which detet the presence of vehicles and alter the timing of the lights accordingly. All Sloth Coasting does is increase the chances that you will get a red light, since by coasting you delay tripping the mid-block traffic sensor, causing the intersection controller to believe there is no traffic coming from your direction and to change the cross traffic's light to green.

Bottom line, you smug Sloth Coasters think you're so clever, but in reality you are just making things worse for yourselves. :)
