Oh dear, you did miss the point after all. And there was me thinking that you actually understood it. It's not about being bored, it's about how much new information can be absorbed in one continuous period. If it were about being bored the repebreastive practice of a single element would be worse.
I don't know the name (if it has one) for the phenomenon and I don't claim to fully understand the cognitive processes behind it, perhaps others here could fill in the blanks. There is a period of time beyond which new information is simply not properly absorbed despite continued effort and concentration. Apparently that time is about 40 minutes or so and seems to common to most people. I have noticed it in myself when learning and in others when teaching.

Concentration is different. Most people can concentrate pretty well for about an hour. After that they will start to lapse a little and it is noticeable on an advanced test which generally lasts about 90 mins. After the first hour the things that are not completely natural will start to show and the mistakes and inconsistencies creep in.
