Now what I *did* say is that a) the speed limit is often not the actual upper bound limit of safe travel speed, nor does it often bear any resemblance to same and b) that on many roads, it is statistically safer to exceed the speed limit than not (implying that the vast majority of drivers are exceeding the speed limit and therefore the desirability of minimizing speed differentials overrides any safety benefit that might be achieved by traveling at an artificially low speed.)
However, what I *never* said, and never *would* say, is that speed limits should be ignored. One should always know what the speed limit is, so that one can avoid being ticketed.
