Which one? There's one westbound JWO Buckman Springs Road, there's one eastbound JEO Yuma, and there's a temporary one that they often set up on the eastbound side JEO Jacumba.
The one on the westbound 8 is clearly well-placed. Until recently, when they added all those lights on the wastbound side of I-8 just opposite the BP checkpoint, it was a pretty regular occurrence to have a pickup truck, with wetbacks stacked in the bed like cordwood, driving westbound on the EASTbound side of the freeway with its lights out in an attempt to avoid that checkpoint. It was a pretty regular occurrence to see one of these Coyote trucks rolled over and wetback bodies scattered all over the road; I almost got caught in one of these incidents, but fortunately I managed to duck off at an exit and take a frontage road (old US 80) around the obstruction. I guess the lights have helped, because now they had to add that new portable-temporary checkpoint near Jacumba to catch the Coyotes trying to go the other direction.

They are clearly profiling. Every once in a while they will stop me and ask me what my citizenship is, then they thank me and wave me on through. Most of the time they just wave me on through without saying anything.
