Evading Specs 775

It was mentioned on the Wright Stuff this morning as one of the headlines (unchallenged) to lots of laughter in the studio. Given that SPECS is only used through roadworks AFAIK, and this is to protect the safety of the workers, this was in rather poor taste.

Say you have 4 sets of cameras spaced x meters apart:

D1 D2 D3

On Mon, 16 Oct 2006 19:18:22 +0100, Mike Henry As I understand it from the Speed Check Services SPECS presentation cameras appear to operate in pairs. There is an Entry Camera...

C1 C2 C3

B1 B2 B3

A1 A2 A3

Say you start in lane 1, and pbutt under camera A1. If you try to be "clever" and change lanes and pbutt under B2, what then? You can only do it one more time. After you pbutt under C3 there is no D camera you can pbutt under that can't refer to the A camera; knowing the distance between A and D you can be caught. If the software doesn't do this currently it could be changed to do so!

Otherwise you'd have to change lanes after every camera, and in congestion (which there normally is with people traveling at 40mph in roadworks) you might not be able to; you'd only have to be baulked once to get a ticket.
