Exceeding the speed limit vs uninsured driving 1262

13:14:47 -0700:

Mine just says (words to the effect) 3rd party cover to drive other vehicles. No more qualification on the duration, or the insurance state, or the ownership of these other vehicles.

From memory, the last couple of policies I've had have been like that - and it is something I've picked up on, because I remember that the wording used to mention "insured elsewhere".

Presumably, it wasn't by accident, nor a mistake.

They also ask if I've got access to other vehicles. And my policy states, with no more further qualification, that I'm insured to drive other vehicles.

I've not disputed that.

But there's a semantic difference between a policy that insures any vehicle and a policy that covers you to drive any vehicle.

Adrian So? What's the salient difference between this and an "any car" policy? My policy doesn't say I'm only insured to drive another car for 5 minutes, or half an hour. So - be explicit - what's...

I suspect the semantic difference, is that some people have a policy that doesn't just say that they can drive any car. Moreover, I suspect, they have a policy that says any and all cars they own are insured. I'm rather buttuming that's not exactly a cheap thing to buy.

Righto.

If I'm in that situation again, if it's OK with you, I'll print off this posting, and point out you said it should be OK. ;-)

Feel free to tell them that.
