Maybe in some cases, but not all my policies have stated this. Going back over time...

So? What's the salient difference between this and an "any car" policy?

My policy doesn't say I'm only insured to drive another car for 5 minutes, or half an hour.

So - be explicit - what's the salient difference between a policy that states that a driver can drive another unspecified vehicle, and as you put it, an "any car" policy?

And any other users of that vehicle.

About what?

The policy certificate doesn't say anything about it being resticted or short-term. It merely says words to the effect about being covered to drive other vehicles - in some cases, it does say that the other vehicle must be insured for this cover, but not in every case.

None of my policies have ever mentioned restricted or short-term to qualify my cover regarding driving other vehicles - so where have you got that from?

Ad hominem - that's your choice.

Personally, I'm ambivalent and calm. If you have a point to make against that, feel free, but suggesting I'm "obtuse" or "thick" doesn't change the facts that that's the criteria the online tax renewal system uses - the insurance for the vehicle matters, it doesn't care one jot about whether that's in the drivers name, or the owners name, or the registered keepers name. Merely that the vehicle is entered on the database.
