I know I've had back issues resulting from an accident. Haven't you injured your back, too, and were put on light duties? It takes a lot of money to compensate for being unable to do something you used to enjoy, following an accident that only happened because another road user was too stupid selfish ignorant to prevent it. More than I can think, since I derive a sense of satisfaction from doing these things.
There's no excuse for being as close behind any car at 40 as you would be at the traffic lights. End of.
You can continue to dispute this all you like but it's irrelevant since the fleet manager and I had a conversation later that day. The point I was making, which I guess you missed, is that here is an example of a berk being put under too much pressure, or the driver education and testing system is failing, not that all truckers behave in this way. The majority don't.
The *last* time an idiot trucker did something idiotic (A47, Norwich way) you agreed that this chump needed his shoe laces tightening... have you become so cynical in these last few years?
