Actually they just start to adopt the MFFY of the people that are annoying them.
The way US society works is that there are aggressive people who prey on the non-aggressive. The entire society I have concluded is set up this way effectively for the most part. Driving is only part of that.
Someone being rude and cutting you off? Are people told not to cut others off? No, they are told to just let the person cut them off. This is the problem, good people are told to take in on the chin infinitely. Meanwhile the message is being sent out that being aggressive is a being a 'winner'. More so, that it's the other person's obligation to BACK DOWN to aggression. Be it a mugger, a highjacker, or another driver. It's become an enbreastlement with some people that they can push others around.
When someone is pushed around just too much, they just might snap. There is only so much a person can tolerate. Not to mention that the sense of enbreastlement some people have wrt doing the pushing, they may be sent into a rage when someone decides not to give in to the pushing.
Infinite tolerance is not a viable system. 'road rage' incidents are but the most extreme symptom.
