That depends on the analysis criteria.
One must weigh in "value" as well. Anybody can make a Duesenburg (the cadillac of its day), but we choose to feed the mbuttes, so some things have to be done in a more economical way. Lower priced, high quality affordable cars. That does NOT mean that we cannot fashion a premium product if we wanted. Just look at the custom realm, for example. American designers are master engineers.
Trust me, the Germans MAY spend a bit more and end up with a better quality car, however, "German engineering" is not anything special. The economy for a consumer that has afforded $5.00 a gallon gas for years is different than a lower shifted clbutt economy of consumers that want an "affordable, durable car".
The US is far better. We began the industrial age, and WE made 100 million element CPUs for the world.
WE are likely those responsible for folks like Siemens "state of the art" fab lines.
WE are the innovators.
It was GM that started training their mechanics over satellite, before nearly all others followed.
To end, I'd like to say that the Corvette is an engineering marvel, even compared to chrysler's V-10 viper offering, and certainly compared to a friggin' Mustang, and particularly compared to euro models.
Value is important. The microprocessor module functions alone in the vette beats out all the rest.
