The 11 week Kick Start Safe Driving Project was launched in an attempt to break the trend of young Asian males who believe that driving at dangerous speeds in high-powered sports cars is cool.
The teenagers are made to watch âhorrific videosâ of joy-riding crashes and given anti-drugs talks, before themselves being cut-free from a car wreckage demonstration.
The course, put together by NRSI, Blackburn North Healthy Living Centre and Blackburn with Darwen Road Safety Team, is open to 16-19 year olds and is aimed specifically at the Bastwell ward of Blackburn, where there is a high ethnic minority population. Participants also receive free driving lessons and the initiative is already making young people think twice about the consequences of dangerous driving.
