Kick Start Safe Driving Project
The kick start safe driving project is for young men aged from 15-19 years with a Asian heritage background. The aim of the project is to introduce young people to safe driving and to train and support them to deliver a peer education programme.
The Kick Start Safe Driving project is funded by the Neighbourhood Road Safety Initiative (NRSI), the Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety and the Capita Road Safety Unit.The aim of the project is to introduce young people to safe driving and to train and support them to deliver a peer education programme.
The project targets two groups of young men:
* 15 - 17 years * 17 -19 years
15-17 year olds are being given 10 driving simulator lessons and the 17-19 year olds are getting 20 driving lessons.The days and timings for the lessons have been arranged at the convenience of the young men.
Both groups are receiving training from
* Fire service * Police * Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety * Lancashire Council of Mosques (drug awareness) * Capita road safety unit * BSM (car maintenance.)
The Fire service will have a talk to the young men about road traffic collisions and the consequences. The crew will cut up a car showing the difficulties that arise following an accident.

The police and Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety will talk about the importance of using seat belts, speed limits and general road safety.
The drug awareness officer would explain how dangerous drugs can be, and how drugs have caused numerous accidents.
The Capita Road Safety unit will inform the young people about road closures, road safety, maintenance of existing signs and street name plates, road markings and signage such as yellow lines, street furniture, traffic calming measures and street naming and numbering.
Tutors from BSM will educate the young men on car maintainance.

All training on the Kick Start Safe Driving Project will be delivered in a two hour session on Thursday evenings.
