Just saw this politics thing on TV. It seems that everything is done by finding out which voters will make a difference, and then targetting everything at them. They target specific people, such as people with loans, and can pinpoint these down to specific houses. Anyway, this basically means, that our votes don't count. They know exactly what these people want, base their campagn around it, and persaude these individuals to vote for them.
Fuel protests starting 5470Brimstone Translation: Accurate history snipped (and here reinstated, much to the PP's chagrin): Petrol has not been cheap since about 1973. Labour put VAT (eventually at the astounding rate of 25%*) on...
This next thing is what's relavant here. Air travel is the most polluting form of travel (worse than cars). In a few years time 75% of global warming will come from air travel, so the other 25% will be cars, factories, power plants, etc. With these facts the parties won't increase tax air travel though because it would be unpopular. The reason for not doing it is because it won't win the election.
So taxing car fuel seems a little insignificant to me. It must be just to keep the green people happy. The majority of vehicle pollution is necessary, some trips can be avoided, but the majority of pollution won't be. Until there's an alternative we will always have lorries, and we will always have buses. In an ideal world we could reduce the pollution by a small amount, but I don't think it'll really be significant. I don't think taxing fuel will be the sollution.
