Me thinks someone has their maths wrong 400 Yds. In Cheshire alone which has some somewhere in the region of 238 miles of Motorway alone this would be 238 * 1600 m = 380800m of C-Way therefore on the above with 1 camera every 400m = 95200 Cameras. I Would think not !! (This is based on my maths O Level - Anyone who works it out differently please shootme down with suitable comment !!)
Haven't got a problem with that, Meadowhall and similar places around the country - Lakeside, Cheshire Oak's etc get hammered on a daily basis. Would be nice to get some intercepts and know possible offenders were in the area
Yep from the maths above I'll agree with that - Most definatly Overkill. Specs aren't usually that close from what I've seen myself.
They miss the point it's called the Serious Organised Crime AND POLICE ACT. Basically they lumped a whole host of measure together in one hit.
AFAIK I belive this was used successfully to buttist in a liquidate Case whereby the defendant claimed to be elsewhere in the country with his car but it was recorded going through the ANPR camera heading in the general direction of the part of the country that the crime occured in.
Motorway DriversNo, it's believing that you know what's about to happen before it does. I've yet to have to make a major motorway...
In all ANPR is a good tool, but it is just that a tool and as it's been debated here before, Yes every occupation has got privates's who may try and twist the information they have been presented, but at the end of the day it is a toot in the tool box of policing and it won't beat good old fashioned direct stopping and speaking to people. It can point in the right direction of who MAY need locking up but can't do it - I'm sure the government are looking into that though -
