A week or so ago driving to Macclesfield General Hospital about half way between Alderly Edge and Macclesfield, on a section that was signposted for Z bends I came up behind a street sweeping lorry, going very slowly indeed even for a street sweeper, about 1 foot-second.
The road was beset with high hedges and z bends and I couldn't see past the truck for more than 30 metres. Having done my best, I decided I couldn't see far enough to be safe, so resigned myself to waiting until the truck cleared the next bend or two when hopefully I might get a better sight line, and the traffic built up behind me.
GV03RVY 749I gave up holding them in awe when it became obvious that one of them (trained in the 3rd world) I was dealing with had had a *much* lower standard of education...
After about 45 seconds of this the car behind me (a large Metallic Lilac Mercedes) sounded it's horn and pulled past me (on a blind bend) and overtook myself and the sweeper truck in one fell swoop. The driver was a middle aged Asian lady. Rather her than me I thought. However her car was visible above the hedges and I could then see how far the road was clear and overtook the truck myself.
About 8 minutes later I arrive at Macc.Gen. Hosp. to find my way blocked by a large Metallic Lilac Mercedes saloon driven by a middle aged Asian lady (very likely a Consultant) who was making very very heavy going of parallel parking into a parking bay on one of the main through roads.
SWMBO said she was probably late for an urgent medical appointment, I said she would be of more use to her patients 5 minutes late and in one piece, than on a trolley in casualty having been extricated from her Mercedes by the fire birgade with a great big 2 stroke tin opener.
