Wow, this is the first time I've seen two people arguing with each other on usenet when they BOTH totally miss the point. If you know that oil production is going to start dropping...

Thats not the percentage of US oil use that goes on agriculture.

Doesnt have to be done that way if that no longer makes sense.

Which doesnt necessarily have to use oil.

Which doesnt necessarily have to use oil.

Which doesnt necessarily have to use oil.

Very few of those need to use oil.

Doesnt require it in the sense that that's the only way to do it.

Funny that.

Doesnt have to be done like that.

Just because that's currently the best way to do it.

Doesnt mean its the only way to do it tho.

Anthony Matonak Even before I saw that SkyWeb Express site a year or two ago...

Doesnt mean its the only way to do it tho.

The obvious alternative is coal.

We'll see. Stupid claims about when the supply of various commoditys have been made for centurys now and some of them have turned out to be just plain wrong surprisingly quickly, most obviously with the 'Club of Rome' in the 70s.

Just because that's currently the best way to do it.

Doesnt mean its the only way to do it tho.

Bullpoo. Most are manufacturered in electricity powered plants.

Just because that's currently the best way to do it.

Lie with modern medicine and water distribution and quite a bit of national defense too.

Just because that's currently the best way to do it.

Lie.

Pity hardly any of it actually comes from oil and most of what currently does can come from other sources like coal instead, most obviously with the plastics.

Irrelevant to the use of OIL.

Pity that's mostly coal, not oil.

Pity that's mostly coal, not oil and that what oil is used for the production of plastics doesnt have to be if using coal instead is more economic.

Pity much of that is electricity that can be produced using nukes if we choose to and the plastics involved can be using coal instead if that is more economic.

Pity they dont have to be produced using oil.

Much of it aint and most of it can be done using electricity if that is necessary.

Pity much of it is electricity.

That's flagrantly dishonest when the bulk of the energy use in the production of aluminum is using electricity.

Doesnt have to be, particularly with the extraction.

But again, dont have to be if that isnt economic.

Lie.

Flagrantly dishonest lie. We can do the vast bulk of it using electricity generated using nukes and the nukes can be used to produce hydrogen to use as a transport fuel too if we need to. Plastics etc can be produced from coal instead of from oil. In spades with modern medicines etc.
