Gas: The good 'ol days 2243

I don't think that, and i'm disappointed that you managed to intuit my thoughts so completely wrong. ly. One imagines you don't, as a habit actually read my posts.

Hurricane Katrina Comments and Questions
The latest bad news here: I read that the hotels are exempt from the evacuation...

The subsidiary effects of high energy costs have a lot to do with my concern over them.

Over and Over and Over, for several years, i have consistently made the point, implicitly and overtly, that we are all in the same boat, that each individual's behavior has implications, consequences for the nation as a whole. I have used those very words, "all in the same boat".

I am painfully aware that my fellow Americans' inability to act for the NATIONAL benefit in lieu of their own narrow self-interests. I have derided the me-me-me mentality of our society until i'm blue in the face. I write about "consequences" and get nothing by derision from the "who are you to telll me what i spend my money on " crowd.

It's like spitting in the wind.

Well, i certainly can't argue against the possibility of such a thing; certainly there are more than enough examples of such behavior... But my perspective, as a main control room operator...

I do not look forward to having to live with the consequences of my fellow me-me-me Americans' decisions, exactly, but i've done practically everything i can do as a solitary citizen -- lowered my gasoline use by 75~80% -- enough that if half the country did half as much as i did, gas would today be about $1.25-gal. I ride to work 24-7-365. When i drive i combine trips, and i defer trips until i have trips to combine. I have counseled, recommended, pleaded and written. I have a clear conscience

So, on second thought -- to hell with it. Bring it on. Let's All enjoy the fruits of our collective National stupidhead about driving, auto use, mileage standards, energy policy etc. I can hack it, and. I'm willing to live with everyone else's consequences, as long as they are too.

Pretty soon that "silly" idea of demand reduction via a temporary ban on Sunday driving will look pretty attractive. Attractive as in "i wish we hadn't driven over that cliff".

Nonetheless, i'm glad i only have to fill my car up once a month or so.

So I agree you're right about the consequences, but you're wrong about me not appreciating them.

.max
