Gear Changing 5473

Sure, you can buttume, but you don't *know* and if the situation further develops after the change and before going you may have to stop. So, you've taken a hand off the wheel whilst braking, broken the drivetrain, risked snatching the change and caused unnecessary wear (however small) for no reason.

Yes, and already you will have taken a hand off the wheel whilst braking, broken the drivetrain, risked snatching the change and caused unnecessary wear (however small) for no reason.

Yes, but you WON'T have taken a hand off the wheel whilst braking, broken the drivetrain, risked snatching the change and caused unnecessary wear (however small) for no reason. So now you make a single change and go.

or, you could adjust speed in one smooth action, wait until you know the correct speed for the hazard and then change gear, once, smoothly, without having to release the clutch on a relaxed throttle and risk snatching, and then go. It's just as quick, smoother, safer and more sympathetic to the vehicle.

Have you tried it? Have you seen it in practice by someone who can do it properly?
