Gear Changing 5474

Uno Hoo! formulated on Thursday :

Why is it common sense? It makes no sense at all to me. All it suggests is that you do it the easy way, the one which requires the smallest amount of actual skill. Very appropriate if your level of skill is low, but probably not if you are more experienced.

One of you suggesting this method, cited the case of approaching a junction and delaying putting it into gear until you have visually cleared the junction to proceed. This to prevent you from automatically pulling forward.

The truly advanced method, buttuming you have the skill and self control, is to approach the junction in the correct gear and be ready to either proceed (or stop) should the junction prove to be clear to do so. It does of course require skill and proper care to be taken on the approach. Something which you seem to be denying yourself the capability of, so you have to add in the additonal precaution off not being in the correct gear and ready.

In other words you approach ready to go, but commited to stopping until you know better.
