Honestly I don't feel I deserved the fine. For a non-safety issue I don't feel anyone deserves a fine for something they sinmply overlooked or forgot about. The state still got the same $42.50 when I renewed my registration the day after I got the ticket. My car was in no way unsafe as a result of an expired registration. I don't feel it is right to fine a person for such a thing, so long as they correct it promptly. Furthermore, I certainly feel it isn't right to fine a person $185 when that person, who is a student no less, only has $19 and change in the bank, $1 in his wallet, and a small amount of change in his ash tray. Why that's 925% more money than I have!!
As for the ticket, I commited the crime so I deserved it. I am not saying I feel I didn't deserve the ticket. I am saying the punishment is excessive. What does it matter if the state still gets their $42.50 for the year from me? I doubt they would even miss my $42.50, and certainly not getting it only 6 days late. No disasters there. Like I said, I certainly don't feel a $185 fine is warranted for a first violation of a non-safety issue and non-moving violation. Punishment never solves problems. It only creates friction and bitterness and will create more problems in the long run.
