Rod Speed
No, it's not.
I am not sure what original statement you are talking about since there I have several post in just this branh of the thread. But it is true that OCTANE nunbers are NOT a measurement of how much energy is in a particular gasoline. Therefore just because oxygenates have less "BTUs" (or however you wish to measure energy, the octane number has nothing to with it.
MTBE has more energy than ethanol, yet both raise the octane rating of fuel. So a 91 octane fuel treated with primarily MTBE will have more energy than one with primarily ethanol. The octane of both could be 91.
Pity you're too dense to remember that people are trying to aregue that premium is required in some cars because they are DESIGNED for it.
If all you are doing is compenating for octane, neither mixture or timing adjustments will make much difference. But don't try to tell me that timing doesn't impact fuel efficiency. It does.
Cop out on your part.
Ever floored the pedal while running low octane gas? Heavy loads can cause knock.
Uh... yeah... If you inginte the fuel mixture earlier, you will raise the pressure in the cylinder.
Funny. You don't seenm to think supercharged engines exist? And since most supercharging is controlled, that means compression is controlled.
