If I had such a car, I would not deny it's mostly just fun, even if rarely used to that extent. Somehow, I think that at the RPM of the horsepower peak with an engine that big in a small car, you would be moving at or almost at highway speed in first gear, and accelerating at almost a G at that speed if using full power. This is actually useful when entering PA's Route 309 with some of those nasty short on-ramps with a stop sign and what likes like only a couple hundred feet of ramp after the stop sign. And in a rare situation where the rear end of your car is about to get T-boned from the side, it helps to accelerate at almost a G at whatever full traffic speed is. Although I do admit that if I drove a 400 horsepower Vette, I would rarely use the full 400 horsepower and more rarely actually need to. Fast acceleration is also useful in other merge situations, where you either jump into small holes in moving traffic or else wait a long time for a bigger hole. Although at urban-suburban street speeds, this should not need 400 horsepower - but a car with drive on the rear wheels and at least 150-200 horsepower per ton will be more convenient here than a car that does not.
