Measures are being taken to keep traffic flowing around Bristol during the Easter break. The Highways Agency is repeating last summer's overtaking restriction on vehicles with trailers on the M5 at Naish Hill.
The initiative, which will be combined with better drivers' information and variable speed limits on the motorway, is designed to reduce congestion and improve safety on the southbound carriageway of the M5 between junction 17 (Cribbs Causeway) and Naish Hill, south of junction 19 (Gordano Services).
Electronic congestion warning signs will be on the M4 and M5 approaches to the M4-M5 Almondsbury interchange. If necessary, the restrictions will be implemented on Maundy Thursday, 3pm to 8pm, Good Friday, 9am to 4pm, and Easter Saturday, 9am to 4pm.
Malcolm Wilkinson, Highways Agency area manager, said: "We are introducing a package of measures to try to relieve congestion by adjusting speed limits to match traffic conditions and keeping slower vehicles in the inside lane."

Results of the scheme will be monitored before it's decided whether to implement restrictions during other holiday weekends. -- Conor
