Back in 1988 my wife bought new a Lancia Delta HF Integrale (8-valve). This was a fantastic car; fast, great fun to drive, ultra-reliable. In short, a pleasure to own and still my first choice of car to drive even after 17 years. Then 3 weeks ago it was rear-ended in a multi-car pile up. Basically everything came to a sudden stop; some people (like me) were able to stop without hitting anything and some (like the guy behind me) weren't.
Anyway, the car is being written off as it is too badly damaged to be repaired. The question I have now is what value to put on it? It is an extremely unusual car, not only because there weren't that many made, but also because I doubt there are many others with the clbuttic "one lady owner", very few that are still absolutely standard, and few that are in the condition this one was in, having been well looked after all its life.
The insurance company seem to be as much at a loss as we are as to its value. The loss adjustor suggested we ask some garages how much they would sell a similar car for if they had one to put on the forecourt. Any suggestions?
Regards,
Duncan
