The limit is irrelevant. Higher speeds add energy to any collision which is rarely a good thing.

The crash on Rannoch Moor would be spectacular in the incredibly unlikely event that it happened but the vast majority of collisions happen at very low speeds.
This doesn't mean we should all be travelling at 140mph in an attempt to avoid accidents, it does show that there is no direct relationship between speed and risk.

No it wouldn't. There is no case where the abolition of speed limits has resulted in an increase in the accident rate.

The IoM is much smaller, more rural and has no Motorways.
There are many fast cars driven fast on the IoM, there are many more ordinary cars driven in a manner which would not get a ticket in the UK.
Perhaps less dissimilar but not the same.
