How many Speed Cam Penalty Notices go to Court 1347
For the simple reason that you are more likely to have an accident the faster you drive. If NSL limits were removed then many drivers would begin to drive faster and faster. Average speeds would...

Unless you are a different species to myself, I most certainly *am* speaking for you, as well as the rest of the human race. It is a biological fact that no amount of argument will change.

On Thu, 20 Oct 2005 15:22:05 +0100, "Uno Hoo!" In some circumstances, that is true. In most, it isn't, AFAIK. What...

The idea that you can apply your brain to analysing more than one thing at a time is an illusion. The brain is capable of performing many *automatic* tasks at the same time, but can only perform a single *analytical* task at a time. Try reading a book and listening to a radio play at the same time, for example. Your eyes may follow the words of the page without pause, and your ears will continuously hear the sounds from the radio, but there is *no way* you can follow the plot of both stories at the same time.

When a person learns to drive, the tasks appear impossibly complex. Many things have to be done at the same time or in quick succession, and all at first require the use of the brain's anaytical engine. Change gear, and steering is forgotten. Try to figure out when to start braking on the approach to a junction, and road positioning goes wrong and the clutch is forgotten. Etc.

Gradually, as each task is learnt, they are pbutted to the "automatic" section of the brain, and will be carried out without the involvement of the anayltical engine. Ultimately *all* the routine driving tasks become automatic, and the analytical portion of the brain is used only to detect and buttess hazards and other unusual conditions. When there is more than one hazard, they must be buttessed in sequence rather than together. Fortunately the brain also has a good priority handling capability, and will quickly switch to analysing something with a higher priority should it suddenly impinge upon your awareness.
