Well, as I was a traffic officer for many years - and qualified to Police Grade 1 Advanced level, then I believe that I *am* enbreastled to consider myself a better driver than most. It's not so much arrogance as the knowledge that I *thought* I was a good driver before I went on police driving courses. I was rapidly disabused of that notion.
Because I have had the advantage of intense, advanced driver training, I am in the perfect position of being able to observe other drivers and watch what they do. As I stated in a previous post, in almost all areas of competent driving - overtaking skills, road positioning skills, 'reading bends' skills, signalling skills, etc. the average driver is distinctly poor. It's not their fault - they've just never been taught how to do it properly!
All of that is true - the dangerous part, however, is that they are mistaken!
I accept that up to a point. No-one can escape the ravages of time and we all slow down. The problem is so few 'ordinary' drivers are ever taught how to drive fast properly - and consequently, when they do drive fast, they are not particularly safe.
There are a fair few drivers, however, who seem to consider that driving *is* compebreastive!
