Only among police-bashers.
They do NOT form anywhere even approaching a majority of the population, no matter what it may seem like from reading this group.
I do not think there are many cases where they would proceed to prosecute where the only evidence was the word of a single police officer full stop.
Nor do I think the question about whether it is more or less likely in the career of jury trials than summary trials is relevant, because the offences are much more serious, which usually means more complex.
This is what I mean by "ultra-cynical".
Most people do NOT know what you think they are like.
Most people still believe that the police are fundamentally honest. And are FAR more likely to believe the word of a policeman (who they see as having no reason to lie, quite apart from being perceived as honest) than that of a defendant who will "obviously" lie if he did do it.
