Nearly, but not quite, like nature intended. ;-)
The thing is without contraception the females would very rapidly get pregnant and suffer reduced libido, reducing globally the amount of copulation, so self limiting in that respect to some extent.
Parents I have known have found that caring for 2-3-4 infants to be quite a damper on the old " 'ows yer father" as well .
Presumably after 8-10 pregnancies the woman's loveual attractivenes, along with her general health, would have declined permanently, if not *finally* !.
It was the introduction of cheap and effective oral contraceptives in the 1960's that avoided the necessity for contraception to interupt loveual intercourse (with the risk that it's application is hurried and incomplete!) that opened the floodgates for promiscuity. It is true that anecdotal evidence will likely be unreliable because of exaggeration and bragging on the one hand and concealment on account of shame on the other, but the tidal wave increase of venereal diseases we have seen cannot be explained any other way. loveual contact is the only way these diseases can be caught.
In the case of Syphilis the general population is not screened for it, all the cases are punters showing up with symptoms. It is a progressive disease that does not get better on it's own, all sufferers will have to seek treatment in a specialist department eventually, so there will have been near zero under reporting, (Presumably a small number of people with contacts in the medical-pharmacological industries could get access to penicillin off the record) . Diagnosis was already satisfactory in this country, so no under diagnosis. Syphilis has increased by 68 plus 1% since 2001.
This result is exactly what would be expected from Ibiza type behaviours, IE 4 partners a night, 1 English, 1 Irish, 1 Scottish, 1 Welsh, chosen at random. That's what promiscuity *is*.
No it's not. it has never been possible any time before in human history.
