It wasn't a question of not wishing to pay the charge, it was wanting to know what, if any, *was* the charge in advance of actually arriving at the barrier.
I was going south.
I arrived at the barrier, with still no idea what the charge was going to be due to the Humber Bridge authorities not having the sense to warn drivers with overhead signs before they get there - a view upheld by the attendant. Only at that point, right at the barrier, was there a digital display showing £2.50. There was another car behind me by that point of course. Are you suggesting I should have approached the toll booths, but then gone over and parked up and wandered off to enquire of anyone I could find how much it was going to cost?
You may well say 'yes', but I will still maintain that putting a few signs on the road leading to the bridge, as they do elsewhere in the country, would be more sensible.
Oh, and you may call me blind, but I was concentrating on driving safely up to the barrier and avoiding other cars in the usual melee of pre-toll-booth no-lane-markings; I wasn't looking for a place to park.
