Peter, I don't know how long you have been driving, but full appreciation of these things takes time, lots of experience and lots of effort anlysing of your own driving to eliminate faults.

Then made the following statement:-

It is there to be used when appropriate. If you don't need-cannot use the acceleration - choose a higher gear.

I'll avoid the signals controversy :-)

Its your car, you should know how to get the best out of it. All vehicles have their individual nuances which you need to compensate for. I don't envy you taking any sort of test of smoothness of driving in such a raw vehicle though.

What the failure :-?

It sounds as if he-she was partially to blame for building your hopes up. Ask for a better qualified and more critical observer.

Have you learnt anything from it?

If so it has been worth while. You are young, with plenty of time - stick at it.
