Speedo-gazing is not the answer.
I don't see speed cameras 1023No, clearly it wasn't. But, as I have pointed out many times before, you are mistaken in believing that the number of traffic patrols has been reduced 'because' of speed camers...
IMO the best way to get caught by speed cameras is to try and stick exactly at the limit. The inevitable fluctuations in your speed mean that you are over the limit half the time anyway, and the constant speedo checks just take your observation away from the road. If you want to avoid all possibility of getting done you need to hover around a speed somewhat less than the limit, so that the variations in speed never take you over it. Then you don't have to keep checking the speedo all the time. The alternative is to drive at a speed which knowledge and experience tells you is safe and sensible, and make sure you spot the cameras. Again, you don't have to keep checking the speedo all the time (except when pbutting the cameras). With the latter approach you have to accept that you will occbuttionally get caught by a well-concealed camera.
AIUI you got caught out because you didn't realise the speed limit was 50, rather than due to not knowing your exact speed. No amount of speedo checking would have saved you. I suggest that you just keep driving the way you were before - less than one prosecution per million miles is not that bad ;-)
