My sentiments exactly. There is this myth floating about that thousands of 'innocent' motorists are being criminalised every year by speed cameras. Clearly they are not *innocent* if they are exceeding the speed limit by sufficient margin to trigger a camera. There is also the myth that the majority of these 'innocent' motorists have been penalised for inadvertently creeping above the limit. Whilst I've no doubt that this happens in some cases, my opinion is that the majority of booked drivers simply choose to ignore speed limits because they want to ignore them. I see it all the time - I'll be driving along behind another motorist on an NSL road and up ahead I see a 30 limit. I immediately begin to slow down so that by the time I reach the limit I am already below prosecutable speed. The motorist in front just carries on at the same speed and the gap between us steadily increases. It is obvious that he has simply chosen to ignore the limit. If he gets booked then I have no sympathy whatsoever - he's seen the signs and ignored them - on his head be it! Having said all that, I have to admit that my support for speed cameras is certainly waning in the light of increasing evidence that they are not achieving what they are supposed to achieve. Nonetheless, while they are there - it pays to watch your speed! Kev I don't see speed cameras 1023No, clearly it wasn't. But, as I have pointed out many times before, you are mistaken in believing that the number of traffic patrols has been reduced 'because' of speed...
