I don't see speed cameras

I don't see speed cameras 1022
My sentiments exactly. There is this myth floating about that thousands of 'innocent' motorists are being criminalised every year by speed cameras. Clearly they are not *innocent* if...

Been flashed twice now and got one nip.

Been trying my best to keep below all speed limits and I am finding it quite difficult. What I used to do was always drive EXACTLY at or below the limit. Managed a million miles without a single flash.

What happens now is I drive to the conditions and often find myself above the limit. Most of the time I am checking speed and adjusting for the limit. Often though, my TomTom alarm will go off and I will be over the limit - not by much but enough to cause concern as far as speed cameras are concerned.

This is only a recent problem though. As I have become more experienced and fluent in the drive, I am paying attention to limit points, traffic, positioning etc. I believe I am a safer driver than I ever used to be but now I am starting to fall foul of the cameras.

Last night I was sitting over at the end of the runway at Luton Airport (I am doing ground study for the private pilots license, and the peace and quite there, with the motivation of seeing the planes, keeps me going!). After a couple of hours, I drove to Hatfield to go to the gym. The journey takes me along the lower luton road, where there are some quite ridiculous long sections of 30mph limits. I found it tough to put my thoughts and observation to the speedo. I kept drifting over as I found myself drawn to the road layout, hazzards etc.

I do not think this is over confidence or "superiority complex". I just find constant speedo checks to take my mind away from what seems to be important.

I seem to be in a pattern of checking the speedo and then geting down to the observation, anticipation and positioning. I then do a speedo check where I consider it safe to do so and find my speed has drifted up and needs reducing. This continues in a cycle, ending up with me getting a nip.

No, clearly it wasn't. But, as I have pointed out many times before, you are mistaken in believing that the number of traffic patrols has...

Could Mark, Harry or others comment on where I am going wrong here? If you think I am just over confident then so be it. Ironic that a million miles of motoring were NIP and points free, yet I KNOW luck played a decent part in me not crashing. Now I KNOW my technique is better and safer but I have developed a legality problem :-)
