I'm Ted Kennedy, and I approved this message

In our last episode, the lovely and talented David W. Poole, Jr. broadcast on alt.true-crime:

Laura just happened to kill a boy she had dated at an intersection where cross-traffic was visible for miles and ran a stop sign (which she knew was there because she came to this intersection every school day) to do it. She lied about pertinent details of the accident for years - while it seemed the records would forever remain sealed. She claimed it raining. The police report said it was dry. She claimed Michael Douglas was thrown from a Jeep. The police report says he was in a sedan.

The police report says she ran a stop sign - but she didn't even get a ticket for that.

You say is a matter of the difference of accidents, negligence, and premeditation. I say let a grand jury determine which it was. She had a previous relationship with her victim, and no traffic cop is qualified to dismiss events as an accident under those circumstance. There is no indication that homicide investigators were ever involved or even informed of the situation.

She was a well-to-do white girl in an affluent community. She end her boyfriend and no hard questions were asked. She been welching on her obligations ever since.

And the comparison is that Kennedy faced a coroner's jury where evidence was presented, testimony was taken, and a verdict was returned, and this all was done in open court (and, in fact, the proceedings were broadcast). Laura Welch's case was disposed of by a couple of traffic cops in the night and the records were sealed for nearly forty years.

The difference is there are two standards - and somehow fascists are always given a free pbutt.
