Yes there are. If your vehicle requires 200bhp to drive confortably because it is quite heavy (200bhp isn't the big magic figure it once was family hatches and better clbutt rep saloons have it as standard), having extra in reserve that you don't normally use, for those few times when you can-do use it is a good thing. I'm someone who generally obeys speed limits, but enjoys acceleration (last bit of fun left) and handling. My last 3 car have had between 170-220BHP as standard, my first two barely managed 120 between them. I thought they were great till I bought the first fast one. Didn't drive any faster, but the engine was less strained and the ride was more comfortable, and the noise was quieter.

Picture a scenario. You are pootling along with you IAM badge on your bumper.

Full Of Idiots
The roads are full of idiots! The traffic was terrible today, but I can see where a lot of it comes from. Every few moments I had to slow up...

You come upto a caravan, it is pootling along at your speed-5mph. You sit behind him until a gap opens to overtake safely

When you drive a small engined low powered car that gap needs to be quite large and like the holy grail, because the acceleration is sluggish.

When you drive a bigger faster more powerful car, you can still pootle, the car won't break or go on strike. But when you come up against that caravan, you can judge that a smaller gap can still make for a safe overtake. -- Carl Robson
