But I can't thin of a way that those individuals can be compelled to make another choice that does not affect all users of such vehicles. Indeed I have a deep dislike of such compulsion and of the secondary effects of the current campaigning.
I want it now 4WD 273they were saying : You mean a v8 Vantage with a misfire...? Oh, no. Sorry. Have I ever said it does? No. I just don't like waste...
I think part of hte problem is that people in general seem to need some outlet for hate. It used to be manifest as racism and homophobia, and still is for many individuals. However for the majoirty nowadays paedophiles and 4x4s seem to be the objects of unthinking hatred. For many people the mere fact that someone drives a 4x4 is seen as legitimising making them a target for abuse. It's now routine to get 4x4s vandalised in London or as in my experience to have loons lobbing bottles, cans and spitting on the vehicle.
All of those things have happened to me in Islington, when I was hauling Mrs. F's Italian nosh from Highgate to the Business Design Centre. SO more recently I've used a VW LT35 which is (a) bigger and (b) attracts no adverse comment at all.
People are weird.
