I wonder about that sign (the one I saw was similar but on the west side, facing the southbound lanes). It's big and professionally made up, but seems awfully unofficial, and is strung up across the side of some kind of agricultural trailer, and my guess is that it's on private land too. I think that's one of the main causes of license suspensions and revocations in California, to the tune of about 200,000 a year, and good riddnance. See

Not that I-5 doesn't have plenty of nuts behind the wheel as well as in the roadside orchards, but I'm guessing that most of those "1290 licenses taken here last year" have more to the story than one act of simple speeding. That would take a sustained average of three to four a day really rocketing along even by I-5 standards *and* getting caught at it.

Just some personal opinions and finite-napkin analyses from somebody who drives that stretch of I-5 several times a year with his heart in his throat, hoping the people who can barely make 50, the people trying to do 100, the people who are doing coke or crank, the people who think coffee will do in lieu of sleep, and the people who are watching a DVD and talking on the cell at the same time don't run into each other, especially not ahead of me...
