Which is why we should insist on motorway training for all drivers. the reason we see so much inept driving on our motorways is that most drivers have not been trained, so most know no better.
If i suggested to you that someone should write a book enbreastled "How to Drive", and simply asked prospetive drivers to read it, and then once they have read it, consider them qualified drivers, able to drive on any road in the UK I would rightly be regarded as an idiot. Yet that is exactly what we do for motorway driving.
So it is not surprising that so many seem to think that 80mph 6 feet from the car in front in a torrential downpour, perhaps on worn tyres is safe driving. Today some of them found out the hard way that it is not.
Motorway driving is sufficiently different to other forms of driving to require separate training. We can't get away with skipping the training just because motorways are considered "safe". The consequences of one piece of bad driving on a motorway could potentially be much greater than on other roads, particularly since most drivers don't seem to be very good at motorway driving.
